Syncing 1Password: A Secure and Convenient Way to Access Your Accounts

When it comes to securing your online accounts, one of the most effective methods is using a security key. This physical device, such as a USB, is linked to your accounts and only grants access once plugged in and activated. With a security key, you'll be able to generate one-time passcodes that are unique to each account, providing an additional layer of protection against phishing, hacking, or interception.

To get started with syncing 1Password using a security key, follow these steps:

1. Select 'Enable' next to 'Authentication app' and follow the instructions to scan or enter a code associating your authentication app with your account.

2. Open a new browser and sign in to your account at 'website URL'.

3. On iOS devices, you can use Google Authenticator, Authy, LastPass, or 1Password as an authentication app. On Android devices, the options are similar: Google Authenticator, Authy, LastPass, or 1Password.

4. Choose a device, such as a computer or mobile device (phone or tablet), on which you can install apps.

5. Download and install an authentication app to your device. If you choose this secure option, follow these steps to download and install one of the supported applications and configure it to work with 1Password.

Authentication apps are not protected if your device is lost or stolen, but they offer more security than phone calls or text messaging against phishing, hacking, or interception. These apps generate secure, six-digit codes that you use to sign in to your accounts, providing an additional layer of protection.

If you lose access to your only authentication method, you will need to delete your account and create a new one. We strongly recommend adding a second authentication method in case you change or lose your device.

When setting up face or touch unlock with 1Password, you'll start by setting up a face- or fingerprint-based credential. This allows you to authenticate without using a one-time code. If you want to use face or touch unlock to sign in across multiple devices, make sure cloud sync is enabled on your device.

Face or touch unlock lets you sign in by using a scan of your face or fingerprint, entering your PIN or pattern, or scanning a QR code. This feature provides an additional layer of security and convenience when accessing your 1Password accounts.
